Description
Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) – also referred to as potash – is the alkaline used along with oils to make liquid soap. Soap by its definition is a product of the saponification process, which is the chemical reaction between an alkaline (potassium hydroxide in this instance – or sodium hydroxide for bar soap) and acids (oils & butters). Without this ingredient (or sodium hydroxide for bar soap), soap manufacture isn’t possible.
