Description
Sodium Hydroxide, (also referred to as Lye or Caustic Soda) is the alkaline used along with oils & butters to make cold process soap. Soap by its definition is a product of the saponification process, which is the chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide (alkaline) and oils & butters (acid). Without this ingredient (or potassium hydroxide for liquid soap), soap manufacture isn’t possible.
